In a statement emphasising the government’s commitment to enhancing Islamic education, Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed announced plans to take the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) to “greater heights” in 2025, aligning with President Mohamed Muizzu's educational manifesto. Speaking at the inauguration of "Mahfalul Qur'anilil Karim 1446", organized by IUM’s Kulliyyah of Quran and Sunnah, Shaheem underscored the university's potential to serve not only Maldivian students but also learners across the region.
During the ceremony, Dr. Shaheem highlighted that President Muizzu’s vision includes expanding IUM’s educational influence, creating a robust foundation for Islamic teachings, Quranic studies, and the development of Islamic scholarship. “I am confident that 2025 will be the year the government initiates efforts to elevate this university,” Shaheem stated, expressing optimism about the university’s trajectory in becoming a regional center for Islamic education.
Mahfalul Qur'anilil Karim, a Quran-focused initiative by the Kulliyyah of Quran and Sunnah, targets Quran teachers and students pursuing advanced studies, underscoring IUM’s dedication to cultivating Islamic scholarship. The event reinforces the university's role in supporting Islamic teachings in alignment with the Ministry's vision.
The minister also emphasized ongoing government support for IUM’s initiatives, particularly those promoting Islamic education and Quranic recitation among the youth.
