Wrongful Beliefs Must be Explained to Abolish Extremism: Dr. Shaheem

Former Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali has stated that extremism can be abolished by explaining the truth behind wrongful extremist beliefs.
While Dr. Shaheem has stated as such, the hate crime bill has been amended to allow the state to arrest people for extended periods of time. Measures regarding the detention and rehabilitation of those returning from foreign wars have also been added to the law.
According to Dr. Shaheem, extremism can be abolished by defining what extremism is and explaining the wrongful beliefs it comprises.
In order to save the country from extremism, he stressed the importance of formulating a plan based on Islamic philosophies, and acting according to the plan.
Acknowledging that it cannot be rectified just by amending the constitution, Dr. Shaheem stated that a more educational and thoughtful approach may lead to a solution.
The former Islamic Minister also offered his services to aid in the efforts of state institutions.
