Land Distributed Under Male' City Housing Scheme to Pass to Heirs Upon Beneficiary’s Death

The Ministry of Housing, Land, and Infrastructure Development has clarified that land allocated under the "Land Owner Scheme," initiated by the previous administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, will be passed on to the heirs of the beneficiary in the event of the beneficiary's death.
In a statement released today on X, the Ministry confirmed that if an individual who received land under the scheme passes away, the land will be awarded to their legally recognized heirs. The process of transferring land ownership will be facilitated once the court has verified the heirs, ensuring that the rightful successors are identified.
The Ministry further detailed that heirs wishing to initiate the land transfer must request an appointment through the Housing Ministry’s Gedhoruverin Portal. Once the necessary legal verifications are complete, the Ministry will arrange the signing of the land transfer agreement and issue an official report on the completion of the process as gazetted.
The "Land Owner Scheme" was a key initiative under President Solih’s administration aimed at addressing the housing needs of Male' City residents. The project focused on distributing land in areas such as Giraavaru Falhu, Gulhifalhu, and Hulhumale Phase II. According to previous reports from the Ministry, more than 400 plots of land were assigned to over 600 applicants under this scheme.
The announcement reinforces the government’s commitment to ensuring that land allocated for housing purposes is protected and passed on to the rightful heirs, safeguarding the interests of Male' City residents even in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
