Housing Ministry to Announce Revised Flat Beneficiary List by Month's End

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs confirms the revised list of beneficiaries for 4,000 flats under the MDP government’s housing scheme will be released by the end of October.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has announced that the much-anticipated list of beneficiaries for 4,000 housing units, constructed as part of the government’s housing scheme, will be published by the end of this month. The announcement follows revisions initiated by the newly elected administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, in response to concerns raised by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The original list was compiled during the previous administration, after 9,000 flats were prepared under a housing scheme launched before the presidential elections. However, a probe by the ACC revealed that 60 percent of the individuals listed did not meet the established eligibility criteria. According to the ACC's findings, 20.7 percent of applicants fully met the criteria without issues, while 19.7 percent had errors in their applications, despite fulfilling the necessary requirements.
The Housing Ministry is now working to correct these discrepancies and ensure that the final list, consisting of 4,000 beneficiaries, is accurate and adheres to the required guidelines. The Ministry has reiterated that every effort is being made to meet the President’s promise of releasing the list before the end of October, and assured the public that no eligible citizen will be excluded from the process.
The government's revision of the beneficiary list comes amid heightened public interest, particularly given the shortage of affordable housing in Malé. The flats, part of a larger initiative to address housing challenges in the capital, were expected to offer relief to thousands of families.
With the flat allocation process under scrutiny, the Housing Ministry has also promised transparency and adherence to all norms to ensure that the flats are distributed fairly.
