President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s uncle Moosa Solih on Friday signed the petition calling for the system of governance to be changed to a parliamentary system.
Moosa Solih acted as temporary CEO of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) during the early days of the current government. He has since retired from the position.
Madaveli MP Hussain Firushan revealed that Moosa Solih signed the petition calling for President Solih to change the governing system, as Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) in 2018 promised to change the governing system to a parliamentary system.
Firushan tweeted that the president’s uncle has signed the petition, and reiterated that signing the petition is not opposing the government.
Although changing the governing system is said to be a pledge of both MDP and President Solih, the government has stated that implementing a parliamentary system is not one of the government’s pledges. As per the government, the government’s manifesto is the connected parties’ manifestos.
It is noteworthy that the petition is headed by former President Mohamed Nasheed and his supporters.
