The Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery claimed that COVID-19 brought their operations to a halt.
President of the Commission Ahmed As'ad stated that although the commission summoned several persons as part of their investigation, most are unable to simply due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The President of the Commission declared that although their investigations were barred by restrictions in March, the commission is attempting to complete all administrative aspects of the issues. "Some say they are high-risk. Others say they are in quarantine, so we are unable to proceed with these cases", said As'ad.
He further stated that although some are unable to cooperate with the commission, others voluntarily worked with the organization to facilitate meetings. He mentioned changes to the list of those involved in the MMPRC scandal, with 12 companies being cleared.
The most recent list the Asset Recovery Commission presented to parliament comprised 119 officials in addition to 281 individuals. The public criticized the committee established by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, due to the slow speed and transparency of the commission, and their investigations into past cases of corruption.
