Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof's accusations against Mariyam Shiuna, President of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been presented to the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions for further investigation. Mahloof has recently made serious accusations against Shiuna and the President of the Asset Recovery Commission (ARC) Ahmed Assad.
The matter was presented to the Independent Institutions Committee by parliament representative for Villimale' constituency Ahmed Usham.
During the Havaasaa program hosted by online news Vaguthu on Clubhouse, the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof revealed he has chat logs discrediting the integrity of Shiuna and Assad. According to the minister, the chat logs comprise discussions and actions taken to manipulate the direction of his case.
ACC has requested the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) to prosecute Mahloof on suspicion of receiving a sum of money from the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption. Soon after, he was suspended by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. It has now been over two months into his suspension.
While presenting the issue, Usham stated that Mahloof has made major accusations against Shiuna, the president of an independent institution. He stressed that the issue must be investigated and the truth must be discovered.
Mahloof has speculated that he is being accused by political figures wanting to remove him from his position as minister.
