A new General Practitioner (GP) clinic is scheduled to open in March at FDC’s Amaan Udhares Tower in Hulhumalé Phase II, Hulhumalé Hospital has announced.
A hospital spokesperson highlighted the steady population growth in Hulhumalé Phase II, which has led to increasing demand for local healthcare services. Efforts are ongoing to expand and strengthen primary care provision in the area to better meet this need.
The clinic will be located on the first floor of Amaan Udhares Tower 6 and is part of the Government’s broader initiative to expand access to primary healthcare. The designated space was officially handed over to the Malé City Group of Hospitals in December last year, with preparations now underway for its opening.
Health authorities explained that the GP clinic model aims to reduce congestion at major hospitals by redirecting non-critical cases to community-level facilities. These clinics are expected to play a vital role during periods of high patient volume, such as seasonal influenza outbreaks, by offering accessible frontline care and easing pressure on specialised hospital services.
Services at the new clinic will include consultations with general practitioners, sample collection for laboratory tests, and X-ray facilities.
The first GP clinic in the Malé area was established in Maafannu, with another already operational at Hiyaa flats. A third GP clinic is currently being set up in Henveiru, further expanding the network of community-based primary care options.
