The Maldives Police Service has revealed that drugs and liquor seized across the country so far this year carry an estimated street value exceeding MVR 875 million.
The figures were disclosed during a press conference held on Wednesday, where police presented the outcomes of drug enforcement operations conducted throughout 2025.
Chief Inspector of Police Fatih Mohamed highlighted major operations carried out from 1 January to 20 December. He reported the seizure of 498.99 kilograms of drugs, valued at approximately MVR 871,243,131 on the street.
Additionally, authorities confiscated 6,860 items of liquor – including bottles and cans – with an estimated street value of MVR 3,992,492.50.
Combined, the total street value of seized drugs and liquor surpasses MVR 875 million, underscoring the scale of illicit trafficking intercepted this year.
The Police Service emphasised several successful large-scale operations targeting drugs smuggled via sea and air routes, conducted in close collaboration with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard.
