Two Missing After Landing Craft Sinks Near Kaafu Gaafaru

A search operation is underway after two people went missing when a landing craft travelling from Kaafu Thilafushi sank near Kaafu Gaafaru on Friday morning, police said.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the incident was reported at 8:48 a.m. after authorities received information that the vessel had gone down in waters near Gaafaru.
Emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the area following the report.
Police said there were 10 people on board the landing craft at the time of the incident. Eight people have since been accounted for, while search efforts continue for the remaining two individuals.
The incident comes as adverse weather continues to affect the Maldives. The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast strong winds of up to 50 mph in some areas, with rough sea conditions expected across much of the country.
Authorities have reiterated their advice for the public to avoid non-essential sea travel while rough weather persists, warning that postponing unnecessary journeys remains the safest option.
The search for the two missing individuals is ongoing, with police and other relevant authorities continuing rescue efforts.
