The remand of an Indian national arrested on suspicion of selling alcohol was extended by an additional 15 days today.
On the 23rd of this month, police arrested 26-year-old Jinesh Kumar Murugesan in an operation. A total of 71 bottles of alcohol were recovered from him.
The operation was jointly conducted by Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Hulhumalé Special Enforcement. When he was stopped and searched on Dhigga Magu in Hulhumalé Phase 1, 18 bottles of suspected alcohol were found. A further 53 bottles were discovered during a search of his residence, according to police.
He was initially remanded for three days when first presented before the Criminal Court in connection with the case. After that period ended, he was brought before the court again today and ordered remanded for an additional 15 days.
Police said the investigation into the case is ongoing.
