The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a weather advisory, warning of heavy rainfall and rough sea conditions across the country over the next two days. The adverse weather is expected to impact the central and southern atolls the most, with strong winds and turbulent seas posing risks to maritime activities.
According to the forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely, particularly in the central and southern regions. Wind speeds are expected to range between 8-18 kmph in the north-central atolls, with gusts up to 15 kmph, while the south-central atolls may experience winds of 3-13 kmph, gusting up to 13 kmph.
Sea conditions will also be significantly affected, with the central and northern seas expected to be rough to very rough, experiencing wave heights between 4 to 7 feet. Meanwhile, the southern atolls will see relatively calmer seas, with wave heights ranging from 2 to 5 feet.
The MET Office has attributed the weather disturbance to a circulation system in the eastern part of the country. Authorities have urged seafarers and the general public to remain cautious, particularly those traveling by sea, as conditions may pose significant risks. The MET Office continues to monitor the situation closely and advises residents to stay updated on further advisories.
