The Maldives Police Service has announced that they have begun taking action against vehicles parked on ramps designated for people with disabilities.
The issue was recently highlighted in a video by Care Society, where an individual with mobility challenges expressed the difficulties faced due to vehicles blocking access ramps.
"It's very difficult when it's not accessible. We have to enter with great difficulty. If we get inside, we can't get out, and if we get out, we can't get in—unless we call someone for help. They park right on the ramp," the person in the video stated.
When asked by Dhiyares, a police media officer confirmed that the issue has come to their attention, and the police are now actively addressing the problem.
"Road Police are currently working on towing such vehicles, fining offenders, and contacting owners to remove their vehicles," the officer stated.
According to the police, this initiative is part of a special operation aimed at ensuring better accessibility and addressing concerns raised by the public.
