President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has underscored the importance of investing in renewable energy sources to secure the future of the Maldives.
In a special message shared today to mark International Clean Energy Day, the President highlighted the Maldives’ commitment to renewable energy development, particularly in solar power initiatives. He emphasized that as a low-lying island nation vulnerable to climate change, the Maldives must continue its efforts in clean energy to ensure long-term sustainability.
President Muizzu stated that the government aims to achieve 33% renewable energy in the country's electricity consumption by the end of 2028. He further elaborated on the government's energy sector roadmap and legislation, which focus on making energy supply more efficient, reliable, sustainable, safe, and affordable.
Acknowledging the contributions of the private sector in driving renewable energy investments, the President encouraged continued participation and collaboration. He also expressed gratitude to international fund donors for their support in advancing clean energy goals, calling for increased aid to small island nations in the coming years.
President Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to becoming a role model in environmental conservation, stating that the government will continue to work towards clean energy initiatives that benefit both the nation and the global community.
