President Dr Mohamed Muizzu departed for Qatar this morning on an official visit to convey condolences following the passing of the country's former Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
According to the President's Office, the visit is being made to personally extend sympathies to Qatar's Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Royal Family, and the people of Qatar following the death of the former ruler.
The President's Office noted that other world leaders are also expected to travel to Qatar to pay their respects.
Sheikh Hamad passed away yesterday morning and was laid to rest following Maghrib prayers.
Earlier, President Muizzu conveyed his condolences in a message addressed to the Amir of Qatar, the Royal Family, the Government, and the people of Qatar.
In his message, the President prayed to grant the late Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani the highest ranks of Jannatul Firdaus and bestow His mercy upon him.
Sheikh Hamad served as the Amir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and is widely recognised for leading the country's modernisation and transformation during his tenure.
