Maldives Immigration has detained nine foreigners in connection with four prostitution cases following a series of special inspections conducted in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service this month.
The detained individuals include seven foreign women involved in prostitution and two foreign men who were acting as agents. According to Immigration, the women comprise six Vietnamese nationals and one Ugandan national, while the two agents are Bangladeshi men.
As part of the ongoing investigation, three of the women have already been deported and barred from re-entering the Maldives. Immigration is currently working on deporting the remaining individuals.
This crackdown comes amid efforts by Immigration to address widespread prostitution in the country. Last November, similar inspections led to the apprehension of seven individuals in five prostitution cases.
Immigration emphasised its commitment to curbing illegal activities involving foreign nationals and ensuring compliance with the country's laws.
