MET Warns of Rough Seas and Strong Winds Over Weekend

The Maldives Meteorological Centre (MET Office) has issued a white alert for most of the country, warning of rough seas and strong winds this weekend.
With the second term mid-term break beginning on Thursday, an increase in travel is expected, both by air and sea, particularly with local migrants in the capital region preparing for trips. MET has forecast wind speeds ranging from 19 to 24 miles per hour, with rough seas stretching from Baa to Addu atolls.
The weather authority also anticipates heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, with speeds between 17 and 27 miles per hour, mainly from the west-southwest. Waves are expected to reach between seven to nine feet, with swells possibly affecting some islands during high tides.
MET has urged the public to exercise caution while traveling over the weekend, advising individuals to be mindful of the adverse weather conditions.
