In a significant message to the US-China Business Council, President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China's commitment to fostering cooperation with the United States while managing their differences. In a congratulatory letter to the 2024 Gala Dinner, Xi emphasized that the China-US relationship is crucial not only for the two nations but also for the future and destiny of humanity at large. He expressed that both nations stand to benefit from cooperation, urging them to choose dialogue over confrontation, and cooperation over competition.
Xi’s remarks were read by Chinese Ambassador to the US, Xie Feng, at the gala, which focused on “Managing US-China Relations in 2025 and Beyond.” The event gathered business leaders, officials, and scholars, all of whom discussed ways to deepen the commercial ties between the two countries. Xi highlighted the “infinitely vast” potential for cooperation between the US and China, stressing that China’s modernization and growing achievements would open up new opportunities for global collaboration.
The 2024 member survey from the US-China Business Council revealed that 80 percent of US companies in China reported profitability in 2023, and 72 percent of those companies expected their profit margins in China to either meet or exceed their global averages in 2024. This underlines the mutual benefits of a strong commercial relationship between the two nations.
US President Joe Biden also expressed his support for continued cooperation, emphasizing the importance of both countries working together on global issues such as the climate crisis, food security, and health.
The gala also marked the farewell of Craig Allen, who has led the council since July 2018. In his remarks, Allen highlighted that the flow of commerce, ideas, people, and investments between the US and China will play a key role in ensuring global peace and stability for decades to come.
Ambassador Xie also shared his hopes for a smooth transition in the China-US relationship under the new US administration, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a stable and sustainable partnership.
