China Tops Maldives Tourism With 250,000+ Arrivals

More than 250,000 Chinese tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, making China the country’s largest source market, according to the latest tourism statistics.
A total of 250,437 Chinese tourists had arrived in the Maldives by August 18, accounting for 18.5 percent of the 1,379,151 tourist arrivals recorded in the country so far this year.
Russia ranked second among the Maldives’ leading source markets, with 198,748 tourist arrivals, followed by the United Kingdom with 105,785 arrivals. Italy and Germany were also among the country’s leading source markets.
Most tourists arriving in the Maldives entered through Velana International Airport (VIA).
Of the tourists who visited the Maldives this year, 992,462 stayed at resorts, while 300,469 stayed at guesthouses. A further 31,723 tourists stayed at hotels.
The Maldives currently has 1,318 tourist accommodation establishments in operation, with a total capacity of 68,472 beds.
