The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has announced the 2025 edition of its flagship art competition and exhibition, Frame by MATATO, aiming to celebrate Maldivian creativity and promote the nation’s rich culture through the lens of tourism.
This year’s competition, themed ‘The Maldivian Mystic,’ marks a significant milestone as it becomes the first-ever exhibition in the Maldives to explore and interpret Maldivian folklore through various artistic mediums, including drawings, paintings, 3D models, installations, and sculptures.
The competition runs from December 10, 2024, to January 20, 2025, and is open to artists across four age categories. Participants are invited to submit their works for consideration, which will then undergo evaluation by a distinguished panel of local and international judges.
The top 10 entries from each category will be shortlisted for a grand Art Exhibition at the National Art Gallery in the first week of February 2025. For the first time in Frame by MATATO’s history, winners will be determined through public voting, offering attendees a unique opportunity to engage with the artwork and the artists.
Frame by MATATO 2025 is endorsed by several key organizations, including:
- Ministry of Tourism
- Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Art
- Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage
- Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)
- National Centre for the Arts (NCA)
- Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI)
- Maldivian Artist Community (MAC)
- National Hotels and Guesthouses Association of Maldives (NHGAM)
Through this collaboration, the event seeks to elevate Maldivian art and culture on the global stage while fostering artistic engagement within the local community.
MATATO, a non-governmental organization dedicated to the development of the Maldivian tourism industry, has been a vital force in shaping the sector over the past 18 years through unity, empowerment, and cooperation.
