Chinese Ambassador Bids Farewell, Highlights Strengthened China-Maldives Ties

Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives HE Wang Lixin has officially announced his departure after serving for over three years, emphasizing the deepened ties and transformative developments in China-Maldives relations during her tenure.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the ambassador reflected on the milestones achieved, particularly the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2022. "China and the Maldives have always respected and supported each other, setting a good example of equal treatment, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation between countries of different sizes," she noted.
She also highlighted key projects stemming from President Xi Jinping’s historic 2014 visit, including the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, the expansion of Velana International Airport, and social housing initiatives, describing them as transformative for Maldivian national development and its people’s livelihoods.
The ambassador lauded the elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s state visit to China earlier this year. Ongoing projects like the Vilimalé 100-bed China-Maldives Friendship Hospital and the redevelopment of Malé and Vilimalé roads were also cited as symbols of the strengthened partnership.
Expressing optimism for the future, she quoted a Chinese poem: “The river is wide at full tide; a strong wind sends the sail surging forward,” symbolizing the bright prospects for China-Maldives relations under the strategic guidance of both nations' leaders.
In her closing remarks, the ambassador extended her gratitude to the Maldivian people, stating, “I will cherish the valuable friendship forever,” and expressed confidence in the continued flourishing of the Maldives, calling it "a string of pearls that will shine brighter with the wisdom and resilience of the Maldivian people."
