New Maldives Airport Taxes and Fees Come Into Effect

Tourists Arrive at Velana International Airport.
The amended Airport Taxes and Fees Act, introducing significant changes to passenger charges, took effect today in the Maldives.
Passengers departing from Velana International Airport will now see adjusted fees, with foreign economy-class passengers paying USD 50, up from USD 30. Business class fees are set at USD 120, first class at USD 240, and private jet passengers will now pay USD 480. Other international airports will continue charging a standard departure tax.
In 2023, the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority collected USD 129.6 million in airport-related fees. The Ministry of Finance projects that the amendments will generate an additional USD 169 million annually, providing critical funding for ongoing infrastructure projects and public services.
