Azerbaijan Airlines has resumed direct flights between Baku and the Maldives, marking the first arrival at Velana International Airport at 9:45 a.m. on its Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The inaugural flight was warmly welcomed with Maldivian cultural events, reflecting the Maldives' strong commitment to expanding its tourism market.
Operating twice weekly, the six-hour flights are expected to facilitate increased tourism from Azerbaijan and surrounding regions, adding to the growing list of over 40 airlines now serving the Maldives. This development aligns with the Maldives government’s goal to attract two million tourists by year-end, a target supported by strategic connections with new source markets.
Azerbaijan Airlines’ direct route signals a significant milestone in connectivity between the two nations, enhancing accessibility for Azerbaijani tourists drawn to the Maldives' renowned beaches and resorts.
