The Progressive National Congress (PNC), the Maldives’ ruling party, has set an ambitious target to expand its membership base to 100,000. The party’s leadership, encouraged by a surge in public support, believes this milestone will be a testament to the popularity of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s policies. According to the PNC, the party's campaign has already driven membership figures to 75,000, with efforts continuing nationwide to reach their new target by November.
In remarks to reporters, PNC Vice President and Local Government Minister Adam Shareef praised the response to the membership campaign, saying it exceeded expectations. He highlighted the growing enthusiasm of grassroots supporters, noting that the party’s current aim is to increase membership beyond President Muizzu’s initial goal. “We aim to increase the number to between 90,000 and 100,000,” Shareef said, describing the public’s desire to support the President’s policies as a key driver of the party’s momentum.
The PNC attributes the uptick in memberships to its focus on communicating the President's policy initiatives and the party's commitment to serving the public. This support, according to Shareef, reflects broader acceptance of President Muizzu's leadership and signals optimism for a second term. The party has organized numerous events to attract new members, capitalizing on the public's enthusiasm for policy-driven change within the nation.
