The Progressive National Congress (PNC) has strongly condemned a recent death threat against President Mohamed Muizzu, following a social media post made during a live stream of his speech at the United Nations General Assembly. The threat, made by a user identified as 'Ablo Miyad Yusuf,' has prompted a serious investigation by Maldivian police.
The PNC issued a statement expressing deep concern over the incident, labeling it as a matter of grave importance. “It is a matter of grave concern for the party and we strongly condemn it,” the statement read. The party further urged state investigative agencies to prioritize the investigation, emphasizing the need for a timely and thorough probe into the threat, which openly targeted the life of the President.
The social media post that triggered the alarm tagged the police and even included the user’s own calls for arrest, highlighting a brazen disregard for legal consequences. The PNC's statement underscored the importance of ensuring the President's safety and expressed confidence that law enforcement would handle the matter to the highest standards.
“We believe that the state authorities responsible for the security of the President will execute their duties to the fullest extent,” the PNC added, urging law enforcement to act swiftly to maintain the safety and security of national leaders.
