Member of Parliament for Hithadhoo Central, Ahmed Azaan, has emphasized that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is committed to running a transparent government, making the disclosure of information a top priority. Azaan made these remarks during an appearance on Sangu TV, where he highlighted the current administration’s openness compared to its predecessor.
According to Azaan, transparency has always been a key concern for him. He reiterated his belief that information should be disclosed to the public as broadly as possible within the legal framework. "My stand has not changed. I am firm in my believes, and information has to be disclosed at the broadest possible level that the law provides," Azaan stated.
He went on to explain that this commitment to transparency is shared by President Muizzu, whose policy is to disclose state-related information in the most open manner. "President Muizzu's policy is also to disclose information in as transparent a manner as possible, to run the state in a transparent manner," Azaan emphasized.
In contrast, Azaan criticized the previous administration, led by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, for its lack of transparency. He revealed that during the previous government, he was compelled to seek court intervention to access certain information, including details about President Solih’s official visits. Azaan noted that obtaining such information had been one of the most significant challenges over the past five years.
However, under President Muizzu's leadership, the government has been proactively disclosing details about travel costs and other expenditures. Azaan specifically pointed to the recent disclosure of expenses related to President Muizzu's visit to the United Nations, a move that he says exemplifies the new government's policy of openness.
"This government has been disclosing the cost of travel on its own, and the president's UN visit has also been disclosed on its own, and this government has a policy of disclosure," Azaan noted.
In a further reflection on the transparency under the current administration, Azaan stated that while some agencies initially resisted releasing information, President Muizzu intervened to ensure that the details were made available. "It was later decided to disclose it under the guidance of President Dr. Muizzu," Azaan added.
