In a statement marking the launch of the Maldives Police Service Cyber Crime Centre's new social media presence, Commissioner of Police Ali Shuja underscored the institution’s commitment to ensuring a safe cyber environment for all. The center has expanded its reach with platforms on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, aiming to provide critical information on preventing internet-based crimes.
The announcement coincides with the International Month of Awareness about Internet Crimes, celebrated every October. The initiative aims to highlight the growing threat of cybercrime and equip the public with tools and strategies to protect themselves.
"With each passing day, cybercrimes are becoming more sophisticated. Our goal is to ensure that state-of-the-art technology, tools, and strategies are in place to safeguard the digital space," said Commissioner Shuja.
The theme of this year’s cyber awareness month, "Secure Our World," is reflected in the police service’s new digital platforms. These channels will provide a wide range of content to educate users on cybercrime prevention and internet safety.
The Commissioner also pointed out the significant progress made in investigating cybercrimes, noting the institution's enhanced capacity to tackle these complex cases. However, he cautioned that the risk of internet-based crimes remains high and urged citizens to stay vigilant.
The newly launched social media channels will play a key role in raising awareness among the public, particularly those who are frequent users of digital platforms. "We are working tirelessly to resolve the issues posed by cybercrime and ensure the Maldives remains a safe space for digital transactions," Shuja added.
The Commissioner concluded by urging citizens to collaborate in building a secure digital environment and to exercise caution while using the internet.
