The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced a change in garbage collection hours in Male' City to ease road congestion, shifting the collection schedule to night hours. Starting soon, garbage will be collected from 10 PM to 5 AM, instead of during daytime hours when the city’s roads are heavily congested.
The adjustment comes as part of the Male' Fahi Program, which is designed to address the growing traffic problems in the city. With increased traffic during office and school hours, the ministry highlighted the need to alter the timing of garbage collection to avoid further disruption.
The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology, in collaboration with Male' City Council and the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), will oversee the implementation of the policy. The move aims to create a more efficient waste management system while reducing traffic congestion and improving overall road safety in the densely populated capital.
Male' City's growing population and infrastructure challenges have made the issue of congestion a priority for government authorities. The change in garbage collection hours is part of a broader effort to enhance urban living conditions and streamline daily operations.
