Ruling Party Activist Threatens to Stab Male' City Councilor in Response to Criticism of President Solih"

An activist of the ruling Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) has threatened to stab Ibrahim Shujaau, a Male' City Councilor for the Hulhumale constituency.
The threat came in response to a tweet by Shuja criticizing the use of state resources for campaigning by the MDP and President Solih.
The Twitter account that made the threat, "Coming to Maldives," is registered to a travel agency of the same name, which is owned by Hussain Basheer Ahmed and his brother Ibrahim Abdul Rahman. Hussain Basheer has stated that the Twitter account is managed by Ibrahim Abdul Rahman, who has a history of violence during protests and is an activist for the MDP.
This is not the first time that Shuja has faced intimidation and threats for speaking out against the MDP and President Solih. The MDP has come under criticism for its handling of the situation, with some calling for stronger action to be taken against those who threaten violence against political opponents.
