Pakistan High Commission in the Maldives stated in their press release that October 27th is observed as Kashmir Black Day because it was the day India illegally, immorally and forcefully occupied Jammu & Kashmir in 1947, 75 years ago. The statement claimed that this day was a testament to Kashmiris’ legendary courage and resilience evident in their bravery shown in standing up to the Indian occupation forces over the last seven decades.
Speaking at an event held at the Pakistan High Commission, the Deputy Head of the Commission, Zulqurnain Ahmad, made reference to the Kashmir dispute in historic light and highlighted the United Nations Resolutions on Kashmir.
Mr. Zulqarnain condemned India’s unlawful actions of August 5, 2019 in abandonment of Articles 370 and 35A, which provided necessary legal refuge from the restriction on non-Kashmiris from getting jobs, purchasing land and permanently settling in IIOJK.
Mr. Zulqarnain noted that the purpose behind the abrogation of said Articles by India, was to converting IIOJK’s Muslim majority into a minority by legalizing the settlement of non-Kashmiri Hindus on the land. He noted that the action by the Indian government went against international laws and 4th Geneva convention.
In his speech, Mr. Zulqarnain paid accolades to the Kashmiri leaders, who sacrificed their lives for their “legitimate and basic right of self-determination”. He made an example of the courage and endurance shown by Muslim brothers and sisters in braving the worst forms of persecution, emphasising that their struggles and sacrifices will not go in vain.
His Excellency Vice Admiral Ather Mukhtar, the High Commissioner also praised the efforts and bravery of the Kashmiri people. He said that India has failed in their objective of subjugating them, their brutal efforts of coercion and control thwarted by the innumerable sacrifices and resilience of the Jammu and Kashmir residents.
H.E. Ather called for immediate reversal of India’s unilateral actions of August 5, 2019 and urged the international community to honor their commitments to Kashmir, in practical actions. Commending the resolute spirits of the Kashmiri people, H.E. Ather stated that the long-lasting peace and stability of South Asia can only be achieved with settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the United National Security Council (UNSC)’s Resolutions and taking heed of the Kashmiri aspirations.
H.E. Ather reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people on their journey to reattain their right to self-determination.
