Police Attempted to Deceive Family of Aslam, Detainee Who Passed Away in Hulhumale' Prison: Shiyam

Parliament representative for Naifaru constituency Ahmed Shiyam has stated that the family of the prisoner who passed away in the Hulhumale' prison speculate that the police attempted to deceive them.
Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef Umar presented the matter to parliament, calling for the relevant authorities to conduct a proper investigation. During the parliament debate, Shiyam said that he met the family of the deceased detainee at the hospital. He revealed that he met Saudhiyyaath, the mother of the deceased Mohamed Aslam.
According to the family, police attempted to deceive them in relation to Aslam's death. Shiyam claimed that the family just happened to discover that Aslam was taken to hospital as the detainee's uncle was at the hospital when he was brought in.
He added that the family has informed him there are several inconsistencies in the situation and the treatment Aslam received. The Naifaru MP noted that such an incident would embarrass and the ruling Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) as it came into power pledging to amend institutions and provide justice.
Claiming that the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) bringing the issue to the parliament for political reasons is saddening, said Shiyam. He iterated that such issues are being discussed to highlight the contradictions between the government's pledges and its actions.
Criticizing President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Shiyam said that the president continues to use the state's funds inappropriately. He noted that President Solih has traveled across the country using state funding for MDP's internal campaign.
