Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu today stated that prison cells will be fitted with signal jammers to block mobile networks.
On the 'Raajje Miadhu' program by PSM News, he revealed that it was to prevent prisoners from using phones and that jammers installed previously began to rust as they faced the ocean.
The commissioner claimed that research is being conducted on the best jammers to use in Maldives, and expects they will be installed in the coming year.
Prisoners have been known to commit more crimes using cell phones after imprisonment.
