Former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has stated that Jumhooree Party Leader Qasim Ibrahim would make an excellent Prime Minister for the Maldives.
He stated as such in a message to the parliament's WhatsApp group. Bilehdhoo MP Ahmed Haleem (Dhonbiley) was the first to speak of assigning Qasim as PM.
Dhonbiley claimed that Qasim is extremely capable of acting as prime minister and that the best thing the public can do for Qasim is to appoint him as prime minister to bring major change for the benefit of the public.
Maafannu-Central MP Ibrahim Rasheed (Bonde), a strong supporter of the parliamentary system of governance, replied that he is completely against Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim being chosen as prime minister.
Dhonbiley replied to Bonde that although it may be difficult for some to hear, it is the best for the public. He added that viewing the matter as personal is not ideal.
In support of Dhonbiley, President Nasheed said that Qasim is an excellent candidate for prime minister. He complimented Dhonbiley for his forethoughfulness.
It is noteworthy that Qasim is among those most critical of Speaker Nasheed once he began speaking of his initiative to change the system of governance to a parliamentary system.
