Former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has stated that Afcons Infrastructure is the most capable company to build the Thilamale' Bridge.
The agreement assigning Afcons to construct the bridge was signed in August. The company has been given a duration of 36 months to complete the bridge and adjacent highways.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Spokesperson at the President's Office Mabrook Azeez claimed that the bridge's final detail sketches have yet to be completed. The work is to be done after the signing of the bridge agreement.
Additionally, the dates for the bridge's completion can only be determined once the schedule is created after the agreement signing.
Former President Nasheed tweeted to day that the Mistry family, owners of Afcons, has built bridges across the globe for generations. He attached images of bridges constructed by the company in India as proof.
According to the former president, Afcons is the most competent and capable company to construct the bridge connecting Male', Thilafushi, Villimale', and Gulhifalhu.
Although Nasheed has stated as such, Indian media have reported that the Thilamale' Bridge is the largest infrastructural development project undertaken by Afcons.
