Former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has appointed British Queen's Counsel (QC) member Kirsty Brimelow as his representative for the May 6 terror attack investigation.
A statement from parliament today read that Kirsty Brimelow QC has been appointed to represent President Nasheed, as well as to monitor and aid in the investigation into the attack.
Kirsty is to utilize her expertise to help gather evidence to aid local and foreign law enforcement to convict the perpetrators of the assassination attempt on Nasheed and Maldivian democracy, in accordance with local and international laws.
The parliament noted that Nasheed is the first democratically elected leader. The statement mentioned that the former President stated a functional justice system is crucial to democracy.
Nasheed further stated that Kirsty's experience is a valuable asset to bring those who funded, planned and organized the attack to justice.
