Parliament representative for Bilehdhoo constituency Ahmed Haleem (Dhonbiley) has stated that there have been threats of a possible suicide attack on former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
Dhonbiley stated as such regarding a statement from Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef Umar in parliament today.
Adam Shareef claimed that parliament must determine whether Nasheed is hesitant to return due to a mental health crisis caused by the May 6 attack or fear of another attack.
Dhonbiley stated that President Nasheed is hesitant to return to the Maldives due to the imminent danger of another attack, and his attackers still roam free.
Additionally, Haleem revealed that there have been threats of a suicide attack to assassinate the former president. "He continues to receive information and threats of a potential suicide attack", said Dhonbiley.
According to the Bilehdhoo MP, Nasheed is hesitant to return not because there is no solution to the attack, but because there is no guarantee for his safety or security.
