The President's Office has revealed that 38 recommendations of the parliament's inquiry report on the attack on the former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed are currently being implemented.
Regarding a meeting with members of the National Security Council (NSC), the President's Office informed Dhiyares that the meeting was to discuss the implementation of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security's recommendations following a parliamentary inquiry into the May 6 terror attack on former President Nasheed.
The meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and NSC identified the short-term, mid-term, and long-term measures recommended by the 241 Committee's report. The President's Office confirmed on Friday that 38 of the recommendations are currently under implementation.
While President Solih is discussing the implementation of the parliament's recommendations, supporters of former President Nasheed faction have been stressing that it is unsafe for Nasheed to return to Maldives unless the measures are enforced.
Nasheed's family has also been stating that he will only return once a secure environment is established. Chairperson of the ruling Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) Hassan Latheef has reiterated that he is not in favor of the former president's return until his safety is guaranteed.
