Parliament representative for Maafannu-Central constituency Ibrahim Rasheed (Bonde) has expressed major concern regarding the public's harassment and crude words directed towards former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
Speaking on the May 6 terror attack during a program on Dhivehi Channel, Bonde stated that one must not say, "that's what you get, no need for you to return to Male' anymore", at President Nasheed.
Acknowledging the seriousness of an assassination attempt on one of the three powers of the state, MP Bonde claimed that if the investigation is carried out carelessly and Nasheed is not served justice today, the future generation will refuse to let it go and write it down in the darkest pages of history. He added that if the May 6 incident is let go, the future will bring more such attacks.
"Soon there will be the murder of the parliament or the president. A judge may be killed. This is nothing. People will then say it is well deserved, this is what must be done...", said Bonde, who is also a member of the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) National Majilis.
According to Bonde, some have been saying the attack on Nasheed was well-deserved and there is no need for him to return to Male'. He highlighted that these things must not be said because he is the Speaker of Parliament, not because he is Mohamed Nasheed.
Previously, numerous parliament members, members of the public, and members of the leadership associated with MDP have harassed the assassination attempt on former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom. An explosion had occurred on Yameen's presidential speedboat (Finifenmaa). The MDP members minimized the seriousness of the situation, and the opposition has been claiming that MDP attempted to incite hate within the public.
