Pres. Yameen's Statement Regarding Fuhgiri Case Unknown to PG Shameem: PGO

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has claimed that Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has now viewed former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s statement on bribery charges in the Fuhgiri, Raa Atoll transaction.
Following a claim that PG Shameem leaked the statement, the PGO’s Public Prosecutor Ahmed Shafeeu informed journalists that the claim is false.
Shafeeu further stated that the PG has not even received President Yameen’s statement in the Fuhgiri case, proving that PG Shameem has not even seen the document. “No. The PG has not even received the statement”, said Shafeeu.
The Public Prosecutor later elaborated that PG Shameem claimed he has not received President Yameen’s statement for the investigation.
The Prosecutor General’s responsibilities listed under article 223 of the constitution include ensuring that investigations and matters related to suspected crimes are in accordance with the law.
While the Criminal Court has raised two charges in relation to Fuhgiri against President Yameen, his statement in the case has been leaked by online news Adhadhu. Sources have observed that the owners of the news outlet have a close relationship with PG Shameem.
