Two people have been arrested for allegedly attacking Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem, Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau said.
Shujau was speaking at a press conference to provide information on the attack on Shameem. He said that since receiving the report of the attack on Shameem, the police have been using all available means to track down the perpetrators.
Therefore, based on the information and findings, two people have been arrested on charges of assaulting Shameem.
The Commissioner added that the assailants committed the crime in disguise. Furthermore, according to the information received by the police, the attack was highly organized and thoroughly planned.
As mentioned above, we have used all resources to identify these people and have brought them into custody, Shujau explained.
Two people were arrested in connection with the case today but investigations are still ongoing, and it is likely that more people are involved in the crime, he said.
He said he would keep the public informed of the progress of the investigation into the attack on the prosecutor. However, no information was shared about the two who were arrested.
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the attack on Shameem by two men on a motorcycle was politically motivated. Therefore, Homeland Security and Technology Minister Ali Ihusaan has asked President Ibrahim to share any information he has about the attack.
