Pres. Yameen Summoned to DDCom as Scare Tactic: Lawyers

Former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s lawyer has stated that the former president was summoned to the Presidential Commission on Deaths and Enforced Disappearances (DDCom) as a scare tactic.
During the questioning on Tuesday, President Yameen chose to remain silent. DDCom expressed great concern at his silence and claimed he was uncooperative.
President Yameen’s lawyers left the questioning midway, stating that he had been summoned on a personal grievance. They revealed that DDCom suspects Yameen hindered the investigation into journalist Rilwan Abdulla’s disappearance.
DDCom, at a previous press conference, announced that President Yameen had no involvement in the disappearance of Rilwan.
It is said that President Yameen is being accused of hindering the investigation into the missing journalist based on accusations in a statement released by former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb after he was arrested.
While Adeeb is serving as the state’s main witness for the state’s charges against the former president, he is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence at home in accordance with his plea deal.
