Nazim Supported MDP During 2018 Elections upon Nasheed's Request

Former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has revealed that Colonel (Rtd) Nazim supported Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) in the 2018 elections upon his request.
A message sent to the MDP National Majilis WhatsApp group read that after 2012, he met Colonel Nazim at Gaamaadhoo Prison, ten days before his transfer to Maafushi Prison.
He added that Nazim supported MDP in the 2018 elections upon his request to make former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom lose. "Nazim joined MDP to make President Yameen lose, upon my request", said Nasheed.
MDP members have been criticizing Colonel Nazim for spearheading a new political party. After the fall of President Nasheed in February 2012, then-Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed assumed office as President and appointed Nazim as Defence Minister, and Riyaz as Commissioner of Police. The three were subject to severe criticism due to their appointments.
