Police have stated that there is no proof of the attack on former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed being funded.
During a press conference held on Saturday night with the Prosecutor General, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz stated that planning and execution of such attacks are usually funded in two ways.
That is, in addition to bearing the expenses of preparations for the attack, a reward for the execution of the attack or money upon completion of the attack.
The motorcycle used in the attack cost MVR 18,000, an apartment was rented to prepare the explosive device used in the attack, and expenses also included purchasing the materials needed to prepare the explosive. However, police claimed there is no evidence of funding for the attack.
ACP Mohamed Riyaz reiterated that the investigation into the attack has not revealed that the perpetrators were compensated for conducting the attack.
