Fayyaz Concerned Regarding MNCCI

Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail conveyed his concerns as he is no longer aware of who is in charge of running the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI).
Speaking at a committee on economic affairs, Minister Fayyaz stated MTA was no longer spoken of, stressing the need for an organization to establish workers’ rights.
“I receive complaints of the local market occupying the land allocated for the Chamber of Commerce”, said Fayyaz.
The minister met with members of the association when he was first appointed his position and had listened to their problems. His main concern was the lack of communication with the association, claiming he was no longer aware of the inner workings of the organization.
He believes that having an institution to guarantee workers’ rights was of utmost importance when creating laws regarding workers, to avoid any shortcomings.
“I have no idea who is running the association. I don’t even know who to call if I want to contact the group’, said the minister.
The Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established 27 years ago. Ismail Noordeen is the current head of the Chamber. The Vice Presidents are Ismail Asif and Ahmed Rizvi.
