Govt Amends FDI Policy Banning Foreign Entities from Operating Air Traffic Control

The policy allowing foreign companies to operate airports was rectified to exclude air traffic control.
The amendment of foreign direct investment policies allows foreign entities complete control over running airports. The original proposal included the right to have complete control over air traffic control as well.
Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail stated that air traffic control will not be handled by a private company, claiming it was a misinterpretation that was overlooked before publishing in the gazette.
The document was rectified and on public record on Sunday night, excluding air traffic control, customs, and immigration from the initial document. Previous policies did not comprise anything other than air traffic control.
Many have expressed concern regarding the amendment, including members of parliament.
