An Additional 15 Domestic Airports to be built in Maldives

The government made the announcement at the “Invest Maldives Forum” during the visit of government officials to China. As such, the forum briefed Chinese investors on the country’s infrastructure development plans.
In this regard, the forum provided information on 11 areas in which investment can be made in Maldives. These include the bridge project to connect Kaadehdhoo and Thinadhoo, the bridge project in Addu, the development of Ihavandhippolhu and the renewable energy sector, as well as the transport sector projects.
The forum discussed the opportunities for investors interested in investing in the new domestic airports to be built in Maldives. There are currently 16 operational domestic airports in Maldives. However, the government has not yet announced the location of the 15 additional domestic airports.
In addition, the government has decided develop the aviation system of Maldives. The 16 existing domestic airports and Velana International Airport will undergo improvements.
