The Majlis has passed the motion of no confidence against Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, Minister of Communications, Science, and Technology.
The motion was passed with 59 parliamentarians in favour, and with 1 against. 4 parliamentarians had abstained from the vote. The ruling MDP had issued a three-line whip yesterday instructing MPs to vote in favour of the motion.
Speaking in the Majlis today, Maleeh had said that the motion against him was “baseless”. He said that the motion that had been filed was based on lies, and was borne of a “personal grudge” and had been engineered to “smear” his reputation.
Maleeh said that he did not appear in Majlis to defend his Ministerial position, but rather to exercise the right granted him by Article 27 of the Constitution.
Maleeh claimed that all of the proceedings of the motion had been based on lies and deception. He also mentioned that the Majlis had sent him several blank pages. He said that his Ministerial title in the motion was stated incorrectly, and also mentioned that he had so far received no response to the letter he had written to the Majlis in response to the motion.
