A parliamentary motion of no confidence against the Minister of Communication, Science, and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamal has been scheduled by the Majlis for tomorrow.
The motion was filed by the MDP Parliamentary Group’s leader MP Ali Azim (Mid-Henveiru). The motion alleges that the Ministry had not formulated several regulations that were necessary for the Telecommunications Authority.
Maleeh claims that the no-confidence motion against him is unconstitutional; he further claimed that the regulations are currently being reviewed by the Attorney General’s Office.
MP Mickail Naseem (South Galolhu) had proposed the motion of no confidence against Maleeh among MDP parliamentarians. Although the motion had passed within the parliamentary group, it had not yet been taken to the Majlis floor.
Minister Maleeh has a legally-mandated period of 10 days to defend himself against the motion. Majlis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed formally announced that Maleeh had been granted such a period, last week.
