The Health Protection Agency's transformation into an institution that protects the government has become a matter of concern for the people, said MP Hussain Mohamed Latheef (Fares-Mathoda).
He said this yesterday speaking at the Majlis yesterday. He had said that the people are concerned that the agency which is responsible for telling people what to do, and which safety measures to take, has become "politicized". He said that the HPA persistently obstructed whatever work that had been undertaken to make the government accountable.
MP Latheef said that the citizens' obedience to the HPA's guidelines are clearly seen, and he credited the peoples' obedience for helping control the spread of COVID-19 in the country. He accused the government of trying to take credit for a result that had come about because of the peoples' co-operation.
Referencing promises made early in the pandemic, MP Latheef asked where the floating hospitals, that had been promised, were. He also asked where the ventilators were, remarking that the corruption scandal involving the Ministry of Health and ventilators "purchased" from a paper company in Dubai had still not been investigated.
He said that all efforts to present President Solih as a good and kind leader were in vain. The Maldivian people were witnesses to the harms being inflicted on President Yameen, said MP Latheef. President Yameen had served the people the best in the shortest amount of time.
