Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef Launches the Global Development Project Pool

Vice President Latheef Attends Closing Ceremony of China-Indian Ocean Forum and Launches Key Maritime Projects

Kunming, China – December 16, 2024

Vice President His Excellency Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef participated in the closing ceremony of the Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation, held in Kunming, China.

During the event, Vice President Latheef launched the Global Development Project Pool (GDPP) Information Management System and unveiled the plaque marking the inauguration of the China-Indian Ocean Region Centre for Maritime Cooperation and Training. These initiatives aim to bolster collaboration and knowledge-sharing on blue economy development between China and the Indian Ocean region.

The Vice President was joined by several distinguished figures, including Honourable Reginald Farley, President of the Senate of Barbados; His Excellency Luo Zhaohui, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA); Mr Kouadio Affian, Chair of IOC-AFRICA; and Mr Sun Shuxian, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources of China.

Following the closing ceremony, Vice President Latheef attended a banquet hosted by His Excellency Wang Yong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), where discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening ties between China and the Maldives in the field of maritime development.

This event marks a significant step in the Maldives' ongoing efforts to deepen its engagement with international partners in fostering sustainable maritime cooperation and advancing the blue economy agenda.
